In 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, the body is described as a unit made up of many parts. Therefore, believers are encouraged to function as the living body of Christ, living by Christ’s standards in vital union with Him. It is called the body of Christ to indicate the oneness and unity in Christ. Jesus Christ Himself is the head of the Church. It can also be metaphorically referred to as the body of Christ. The church is an assembly of believers, an assembly of God’s people of every race or nation who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
